Read introduction

Dealing with a young person's death is not easy.

The Funeral.

It came too soon for others
to pre-decease him. I miss
his cheeky sense of humour
The church is packed full,

The young mourner's faces
are etched with raw grief,
grief mingled with disbelief
his bright future snuffed out

Too cold for comfort
I fancy that he only sleeps,
and imagine he breathes.
but the silence screams

My minds shrill cry
silently pleads - why
he is barely eighteen
that is too young to die.

Heartbroken, I am old,
why take my grandson?
For one so young, death
should be a distant rumour.
