In Winter

After Summer's Harvest --

As winter strips the leaves
from the trees , we can see
that which was once concealed,
what lay beyond is now revealed .

In the same way as old age
takes away some enjoyments
to enlarge a new appreciation
of the treasures in our world.

Old age is the crown of life,
the final chapter in the story,
the closing chorus of a song,
a final stage on life's journey.

I feel the labour of my hands,
taste the fruits of life I hold
recall bud and blossom of youth.
In winter I write more poems,
ignore the snow on the roof.
