“To live fully, we must learn to use things and love people, and not love things and use people.” ― John Powell

A One Man Band.

Hanging upon a lamp post
a man is playing to the crowd
pulling their heartstrings
he implores them not to spend -
but their money burns a hole
in their pocket . For his trouble
he's punched by a grumpy old man
and harangued by a harridan .

Have we forgotten the dreams
that money can't buy ?
Infantilised , we want it all -
and we want it now.

He asks ,"Who cares what guy's
name adorns your underwear ?
Who cares how many pairs of shoes
are in your closet - besides this pair ? "
Carry on shopping , with a purse
full of debt and a fashionable bag
that overflows with planned
obsolescence .

We undervalue what we have
look around for something new .

Megaphone in hand, pre -
Christmas in Oxford Street
bravely this one man band
makes a stand against the disease
of consumerism .
The driven, drinking or drugged
all join in the seasonal rush
to buy trash forged from the life
blood of our dying world .
