Come back from the war (a sonnet)

The days go by, a month then a year,
I’m still sitting by the window waiting for you to come home.
I want you to make everything clear.
Please be with me again and get back to Rome.

I know that you went fighting to protect our state.
They said you are a hero, but I don’t believe it’s true.
I thought you were stupid, but I still had a lot of fate.
But right at this moment, I have no clue.

I don’t know what to do with myself.
I feel sick of being without you,
So I’m taking a book from the shelf
and trying to forget this persistent flu.

It’s hard to say goodbye, but it is time to close this door
Because you are not going to come back from the war.
