Winter. Sunday. Minsk 2020.
Snowflakes dance gentle and slow.
Gloomy outside. She can’t stay home.
She puts on layers. Prison cell may be cold.
She finishes up her tea. It’s time to go.
Will she return home? She doesn’t know.
She kisses her cat and shuts the door.

White-red-white flags glide in the wind.
She walks with heroes, who speak her mind.
Fighting for freedom, fighting for truth.
Long live Belarus.

Grey streets. Slippery frozen road.
People. Disabled, young and old.
Marching for democracy, marching for peace.
Helpless sun hides behind bare trees.
Here they come fast, "men in black".
Illegitimate man’s police.

Like hungry crows preying for flesh
They hunt those who think “fresh”.
Heroes don’t run. They face the fear.
She looks into his eyes.… Arresting your sister for real?

With a strike of his truncheon,
she falls on the icy ground.
He orders, “Face down. Hands behind”.
She closes her eyes, “Mum, I’ll be fine”.
Mother’s face always calm and kind.
“Good eventually wins over evil, my child”.
