Read introduction

Gold & Frankincense is about seduction - primarily of the senses supported by sensual and textural pictures and images.

It was my first recording and single release of musical poetry. On the recording you can hear me reciting the poem. The guitar accompaniment is by the American guitarist and jazz composer Greg Porée.

Gold & Frankincense

Bedded on roses
swaddled in silk
Covered in honey
and bathed in milk

Sipping hot tea brewed of
liquidized spices,
your musky fragrance
enchanted my senses

The savour of grapes
from which I was nourished
the fragrance of flowers
by which I was cherished

Divine – like frankincense
as spiritual as myrrh
fragrances spread
saturating the air

Smoke from the resin rose
and scents mingled
I tasted sweet kisses
while our fingers gently lingered

Then just before dawn
opened up the skies
I hazily slumbered
guarded by your eyes

Divine – like frankincense
as spiritual as myrrh
fragrances spread,
saturating the air

Bedded on roses
swaddled in silk
Covered in honey
and bathed in milk

Carried in procession
as precious as gold
gifts by the kings
- I could have beheld.
