These wanderings through half-known roads and lanes
Raise expectations of some old surprise
Reliable as season’s sudden change -
Spring winds obliterating winter’s ice:
As faded memories recalled anew
Bring fresh delight to worn-out, homely things;
So light and shade recast these trees askew
Showing us new faces. Baffling
How things that must endure from year to year
Can alter utterly, yet still be here.
