Time and Pride

Wounds will be healed, blows softened by time,
old friends will be friends once more;
words spoken in anger will all be assigned
to hidden rooms where you secretly store
lives not lived, journeys not made,
while your lesser selves will all flicker and fade
into shadows that follow but never impose
their whims and their follies on your weary repose.
So unsaddle your grudges, settle into your sins,
know that the only way to respect
is to forgive and forget, admit and accept
both angels with halos and fools with grins,
hoping this grace be shown by another
to you who are also the one or the other.
