One warm Monday morning
I sat down and read
A book I found
On a neglected shelf in my den
Every sentence was interrupted by the
Tap tap tap
Of a fat old fly who would
Tap tap tap
On the window pane.

I tried to ignore him, of course,
And carried the plot forward haltingly with each
Tap tap tap
That would
Tap tap tap
Until I couldn’t take it anymore.

So I swatted that fat old black horsefly
With the long flat end of my book
And now there’s no more
Of his tap tap tap
But he’s left his remains
On my book.
