Christmas - Light

Readingby Josyf Hayda10 Dec 2015

the daylight
grows longer after Christmas.
it nudges shadows back into corners
with a radiance so slow and strong
it’s hard to get at
all at once.

in the gradual warming glow,
our arms are outstretched
wide open and helpless,
not in glory, but doubt and doom,
until it finally blooms over us
cloudmilk white, like a Lilly,
even as woodsmoke trumpets
from brilliant silver chimneys
fleeing winter’s tomb
