Enbracing 2020

I'm writing this poem for the life that we lost
While we were inside, hiding from the frost
I'm writing this poem for the dreams that have died
Washed away by the ever-changing tide
I'm writing this poem for the people that have drawn their last breaths
And I hope when they died, they had no regrets
I'm writing this poem for the loneliness too
The way that I felt, all alone in my room
I'm sorry that we lost so much last year
And continue to
Despite all the fear
Despite the warnings and posters and masks
The people still die and I'm sorry for that
Maybe ”sorry's” not a big enough word
To capture the fear, that we felt and we heard
Things will get better
They always do
Don't give up
Or I fear I will too
