Upon the Wondrousness of Words. (173)

Ah, poor words, they bear the load
of what it is we try to say.
Messenger, beggar or scapegoat
depending on if we talk or curse or pray.

Of what it is we try to say
our words are given responsibility,
depending on if we talk or curse or pray
they wrestle with their own frailty.

Our words are given responsibility
for bringing our message loud and clear,
they wrestle with their own frailty
while they soothe, or sting, or sear.

For bringing our message loud and clear
- messenger, beggar or scapegoat -
while they soothe, or sting, or sear,
ah, poor words, they bear the load.
