Consider "the least of these..."

from such as these

no highway but
dirt road ruts and bumps
bore testament day to day to day
of her lament
poor as the sandy loam
roads mapping her
she traveled them not always
alone but often lonely
eking one more bowl for
herself and hers
out of another something in the pot
willed bitterness by a hungry man
gone too soon leaving
her to linger and toil and spin
(better with or without him?)
so charity limped her gait
but anguished mind and body afflicted
could not diminish
this work of art
a recipe for saints
made from such as these
yet hearing it would deny
your saying so
