Read introduction

We are in a time of anniversaries and commemorations related to wars. We are still feeling the aftershocks of two world wars. It's good to remember, but we are in danger - of not learning from the mistakes of the past, and not reacting to the threats and challenges of the present.

Distant bands of prussian blue
yield to limpid turquoise,
as sun exposes lilac wetness
to a merciless beating
on the unforgiving sand.

rolling against the retreating tide,
turbulent yet depleted,
run out, like luck.
It is the end of something.
