We gave English to the world,
So she no longer belongs to us.

The only constant
Is eternal change:
Even the language of Chaucer
Evolves towards an extinction.

After the last true kingfisher’s death
His flashing glory may live on
And our heirs might recognize
A far-distant glint of feathers.
