Leaf Blowing

Screen_shot_2017-12-05_at_08.50.24by Patrick Howse03 Dec 2015

A harsh croaking
cackle of crows
chases a goshawk

into woods pillaged
by unforgiving
winter winds.

A man strapped
to a noise
herds ill-disciplined

drifts of leaves
from lawns,
retreating to catch

the runaways
teased backwards
by the gale.

He doggedly loads
a little cart
using a shiny

bladed shovel
and drives away,
blithely redistributing

Autumn's bounty
back along the
cleared track.
