It requires faith
to believe in
a virgin birth,

in resurrection,
in borrowed stories
with flimsy sources.

But the betrayal,
the indifference
of the powerful,

that mocking
crowd enjoying
the spectacle,

the cruel taunts,
an extra little agony
of a thorned crown,

a man inured
to the suffering
of others happily

hammering nails
into hands, the
heartbroken mother;

In His death,
in the manner
of His death,

in that I can believe.
