Missing My Old Hat

A soldier’s hat,
Camouflaged for deserts,
Hides my eyes

As visions of loveliness
Sweep past me
On their bicycles,
Print dresses hitched

Above shapely knees,
And golden hair
Blowing in the wind.

When war seemed fun
I had another,
Broad-brimmed and tough.
Somewhere, I lost it.
