Read introduction

The BBC has moved from it's old home at TV Centre in west London, to its newly renovated even older home at Broadcasting House in central London. I worked in the building for twenty years, and have mixed feelings about the move.

This building was the factory
Where television made the glue
That stuck our nation together.

Now silver foil peels from Space Age
Air conditioning ducts
And a blue tit flits into a broken-
Brick hole to build this spring’s nest.

A suspended walkway bridges
The intersecting curves
Of Modernism and Futurism,

And spans the gap between
The optimism born before I was,
And the decrepit worn-out cynicism
Of our already tired century.
