Walking Towards Distant Mountains

They retreat forever
From futile steps
And hide behind
A sudden wood.

Spider-silk catches light
Beside untrodden paths
That wind through pines.
In touchable branches,

Resplendent in white tummy,
A black pine marten
With shining eyes
Tufts and twitches his ears.

Stealthily a storm
Rolls in from the hidden
Jagged skyline, and
Snow begins to fall.
