Read introduction

A topical poem (29th December 2013) inspired by a Belfast sunset I witnessed (and painted) thirteen years ago. Northern Ireland's past carries a lot of weight.

Midsummer evenings
Are long and golden;
The sun sets behind

Sensuously rounded hills,
Burnishing the heather
And the army post.

The sky settles for
Shades either side
Of dying yellow,

But spreads a
Stain of night
Through resentful streets.
