Read introduction

Another poem inspired by beautiful Broadstairs, and my even more beautiful daughter playing on the beach there.

The Tide in Viking Bay

Lines of men
Die of thirst
In a desert,

Their white foam
Fingernails clawing
At the smoothed sand.

My boots press dryness
Out from my toes
In a subterranean wave

While above high-water
A little girl draws
With a pointed finger.

When I look down
My feet are again
Engulfed by cold surf.
