Too Calm

not a curl, a clue
not one stir, one swish,
not a puff or a whiff
of a wind
to waft rough
or tease then tug away
taunting winging, clingy thoughts

standing as still
as this peculiar night,
clad in transparent
lover's anticipation
calm heartbeat,
slow and strong
like a waltz

rare is the night
that no wind blows,
so she surges and leans
as if it does,
denying the stillness
she twirls, inviting
the stirrings
the words
that come on the wind
