EMBRACE

when your arms slid
behind me I cried.
so long since,
so used to the arms
of a woman leading
to pain, I had lived
portcullis-walled,
body starved of
softness.

when your arms
slid behind me I cried.
my body sagged,
and, not remembering
what to do, I held
you, felt you holding me;
I was lost; I caressed
your face,
your eyes.
