VALEDICTION

In the summer months
of our love we danced together.
Our nakedness astonished us,
our bodies cavorting like swallows
in June. Birds were our
chorus, the sun our serenade.
We sat at your window and
watched the moon, laughing
as we touched and played.

Now winter is come,
and the cold draws in,
The wounds on my body
glow in the night. We are
far apart. Wet and rain
sully the day. We have watched
the distance grow between
us. Weariness fills my bones.
You are lost to me. We speak.
My tears convey my sadness.
There is nothing I can say.
