INGATHERING

Our smiles
Touch, laughing
At the ease of this
Moment. Shoulders
Brush one another, as the
Day is filled with the gentle
Heat that is skin. Neither
Of us thought that this would
Unfold as it has done. Too many
Years alone, disappointments,
Walking over landscapes
Of loneliness and tears and
Yet here we lie, in the sunshine,
Defying the dying grey of all
That is around us, smiling
Like teenagers. We fall, fearing
Falling, like tumblers from
A tightrope. Will this moment
End? Or will it move like a
Chariot to a new found land
Where skies are abundant,
And rivers rise to the sun?
Exiles return to
Reclaim their kingdom.
The soul is happy.
A butterfly sings,
Swirling to
Rest in your
Hand.
