Read introduction

One of a series reflecting on the Troubles in Northern Ireland. This was written in the 1980s, and was not aimed at any one side but all. I lived through that torrid, horrid time and had to listen to one great big steaming pile.... from the dinosaurs of terror.

False Prophets

Watch out. They're about.;
With well-rehearsed excuses.
The "wise men", they speak in tongues,
Spew out proverbs like Confucius.
Well that's all right for them,
Practice and practice makes perfect,
Receive applause for smart things said,
Preaching to the converted.
But I am not a "rookie",
I've heard it all before,
I've taken all they've had to throw,
And I'm taking nothing more.
They all can chant forever,
They all can go to Hell,
I'll not succumb to games with words,
Nor to their self-opinionated spell.
The prophets of apocalypse
Sign loud a merry tune,
Destruction follows in their wake,
And it won't come too soon.
