Read introduction

Another as a reflection of the Troubles in Northern Ireland, particularly in the 1970s/80s. As a product of that time I could not help but perceive that a bigger narrative was being written by the puppets who were the "protagonistas". "Ourselves Alone" refers to one political paramilitary party who used murder as a glory myth, but frankly it applied to them all.

Ourselves Alone

Feel the darkness pull our souls
Deeper down as drumbeat rolls.
Touch despair, vomit sin,
It cannot cure the Death within.
Talking at the other side,
With Chasm deep and gulf so wide.
Scatter blame, self-righteous look,
Hey this will let us off the hook!
Impossible to face the truth
Against the man with cloven hoof.
The lies are swallowed every time,
And leave us clinging to the slime.
Can our hearts have turned to stone,
And left us by ourselves alone..?
