Read introduction

I don't tend to write political poems or ones about sport. But the fancy took me. Non Australians might struggle at the symbolism and metaphor. Red is our Labor party , blue the Liberal/Nationals. This election cycle is well known for its race to the bottom on the issue of refugees by the normally progressive Labor party and I have used the Aussie rules metaphor of flooding your half (sending all your players in to defense) to draw comparison to the political tactic of trying to be a bigger bastard than the other side to nullify a political attack. The inane commentary is a comment on the utter failure of traditional media to do their job, more interested in making up a story than reporting one. And the crowd eyeing the exists at three quarter time is usually hat happens when the game's boring and you'd rather be somewhere else.
