Read introduction

Prison - life changing and life changes, so I know from personal experience how easy it is to become institutionalised.

The day is approaching
When I will be free…
No more razor wire,
No more prison tea.
No bars on the window,
No queues here and there,
No plastic dictator
With judgmental stare.
No “bang up” at seven,
No pointless tvs,
No gruel, no porridge,
No rattling of keys.
No “Yes Sir” and “No Sir,”
No “Listeners” in black,
No edymikashun,
No tossers on smack.
No fights on the landing,
No souls without hope,
No queers in the showers,
No soap on a rope!
No canteen on Friday,
No pittance of pay,
No windows, no warriors,
No basic today.
I’ll leave this behind me
And reach for the sky…
Now you have unchained me
I’ll bid you “Goodbye!”
But ask if I’m happy
To turn and to go,
In truth to the question
I’d have to say “No.”
