This poem is meant to depict the rascally tendencies of the typical road union worker in the city of Ibadan, Nigeria's largest city,

MUKAILA, THE ROAD UNION WORKER

Here comes Mukaila
the prodigy of the road union
clad in his brushed uniform
and riding on the crest
of his moisture-wicking shoes

After digesting wraps of Indian hemp
he becomes a kindred of the hyena
scavenging along the motorway
with blood shot eyes

His tongue lolling with threats
as he broods at each driver
and willing to court violence
like a Casanova coaxing
errant daughters of Eve

Herein lies his lair
the road, a famous burrow
where drivers are the ravens
who feed on commotion
stashed in his pockets
